FAQ
What is For the Birds Trapped in Airports?
We are a very small bindery that makes artist books, publishes them, and teaches about bookbinding, making artist books, and the publishing industry.
Soon we will also be offering book arts and publishing residencies.
How can I donate to support your operation?
We are fiscally sponsored by Sixty Inches from Center — they can accept fully tax-deductible donations on our behalf. We are currently running a fundraiser to support our move to Mendocino.
Are you closing?
Not as a business, no. But yes we are closing our LA chapter and will no longer have a studio in Los Angeles.
So, you’re moving?
Yes, we are moving to Mendocino, CA. In addition to this, we will also no longer be operating in the way you’ve known us to during our time in Los Angeles.
While we will continue to accept some compatible commissions, we will no longer operate as a standard production bindery. We will be keeping all the equipment, and have that capability, but our work will focus on courses, workshops, publishing, and residencies.
Are you still taking jobs while in LA?
Yes, we will be taking compatible jobs until around April 1, 2026.
Please reach out to Lukas (lukas@forthebirdstrappedinairports.com) and include a project description, budget, timeline and any other details you think would be helpful for us to know.

1. Through our online shop.
2. A Good Used Book, LACMA Store, and the Hammer Museum Bookshop in LA.
3. Buddy and Inga in Chicago.
4. Printed Matter, Inc. and the Studio Museum in NYC.
How can I take a class or workshop?
We have one last Idea to Edition course running before our move.
Our future educational opportunities in Mendocino will be listed Fall/Winter 2026.
